Withholding judgment. Listening with intention.
Feeling safe and heard is only possible with trust.

Always remembering the power of hope.
Our Story
For more than three decades, HopeWorx has been committed to one simple but powerful belief:
Every person is the expert on their own journey.
Founded in 1994 as an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, HopeWorx has operated continuously under contract with Montgomery County for more than 30 years. Throughout that time, our programs and services have evolved alongside the needs of our community, but our commitment to peer values has remained at the heart of everything we do.
Over the years, HopeWorx has walked alongside children, youth, parents, families, and adults, many of whom are navigating complex behavioral health and human service systems. We have supported people at different stages of their lives and in very different circumstances, but there is a common thread among all of our services-people deserve to be heard, respected, and supported as they determine what is helpful for themselves and for their families.
This means listening with intention rather than assuming we know what someone needs. It means withholding judgment, building trust, and creating relationships that are authentic and grounded in mutual respect. It means recognizing that people bring their own knowledge, experiences, strengths, and hopes to every interaction. And it means that there is always hope.
We believe that systems work best when the people who use them have a meaningful voice in shaping their own experiences.
We envision systems that recognize and elevate individual voice and choice, where interactions are guided by inclusivity, dignity, partnership, and respect. We believe that sharing our own stories can help others to feel less alone and more hopeful.
Peer support is woven into the fiber of everything we do at HopeWorx.
Our work is about walking alongside people as they navigate systems, understand their choices, find their voices, and identify the supports that work for them.
Over the years, this philosophy has allowed HopeWorx to respond to an ever-changing community. We have developed and adapted programs that meet people where they are, creating strengths-based and person-centered supports that are responsive to emerging needs. Our services have been available to Montgomery County residents experiencing behavioral health challenges, regardless of diagnosis or insurance coverage, helping us reach people who might otherwise struggle to find support.
Today, HopeWorx is a mid-sized nonprofit serving thousands of individuals, youth, and families each year. While our organization has changed and evolved our purpose remains unwavering.
Our long history in Montgomery County has given us the opportunity to build relationships, learn from the people we serve, and continually ask how we can do better. It has also reinforced something we have believed since 1994, which is that positive change is possible.
Today, HopeWorx is supported by an active Board of Directors and a dedicated staff who carry this philosophy into their work every day. We remain committed to sound fiscal management, responsible stewardship of public funding, strong administrative oversight, and the highest standards of compliance. We are always looking for new or innovative ways to grow and expand our current programs, and we are grateful to our community partners who have supported us along the way.
A radically accepting community. An open door when you are ready. A fervent belief that every person is an expert on their own journey.
Numbers, contracts, and programs tell only part of our story. At the heart of HopeWorx are people: the child discovering their voice, the young person learning self-advocacy, the parent navigating complex systems for their child, the family seeking a more peaceful path forward, and the adult using lived experience to help create meaningful system change. For more than 30 years, these stories have shaped who we are, how we work, and what we believe.
Whether you are seeking support, looking for connection, exploring partnership, or simply wanting to understand our work, we invite you to learn more about HopeWorx. Come see how hope, voice, and community can create lasting change.
